Movie Maven movie review: 'Superman, super-average'

By The Movie Maven

The latest installment in the Superman movie legacy, “Superman Returns,” is a visually impressive and entertaining family action flick that keeps in tune surprisingly well with the original films in some aspects, but is sorely lacking in others.

The story begins with Superman (Brandon Routh) returning from a prolonged visit to his home planet, Krypton, to search for possible survivors after its destruction. Upon his return to Earth, he is dismayed to find that the world has moved on in his absence, including love interest Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth), who now has a son, a fiancé, and a Pulitzer Prize, which she won for writing a scathing article entitled, “Why the World Doesn’t Need Superman.”

Reel time movie review: Disney’s ‘Cars’ runs like a well-oiled machine

Movie Maven
The Community News

Disney’s latest technological masterpiece, “Cars,” presents yet another feel-good family film full of that animated eye candy we’ve all come to expect from the folks at Pixar Animation.

The film tells the story of Lightning McQueen (the voice of Owen Wilson), a rapidly rising rookie race car on his way to the Piston Cup, who finds himself trapped in Radiator Springs, a dusty little town on Route 66 that was bypassed by the interstate. McQueen is apprehended for damaging much of the Route 66 town and forced to remain in the town until he fixes it himself.
