Bearcats finish strong in 37-14 win over Grapevine

GRAPEVINE - Aledo came back from a slow start with 21 second-quarter points on its way to a 37-14 victory over Grapevine Friday night at Mustang/Panther Stadium.

The win lifts the Bearcats to 2-0, while the Mustangs fall to 0-2.

The Bearcats will play their home opener Friday, Sept. 12, against Parker County rival Weatherford. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.

Ladycats face Denton Guyer in home match Tuesday

After coming off a second-place finish this past weekend at the Frisco Tournament, the state-ranked No. 6 Aledo Ladycats volleyball team will return home to face Denton Guyer in a non-district match on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The varsity match will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The freshman "A" match will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the P.E. gym followed by the freshman "B" match at 6:30 p.m., with the junior varsity match slated for 5:30 p.m. in the main gym.

Bearcats rally late to defeat Stephenville, 24-20

STEPHENVILLE - For the past two years, the Aledo Bearcats suffered crushing last-minute defeats at the hands of the Stephenville Yellowjackets.

And with just over two minutes remaining in another tight contest between the rivals at Memorial Stadium on the campus of Tarleton State University, it appeared state-ranked No. 4 Stephenville would have just enough at the end to seal another close victory.

Ladycats fall at Carroll

Aledo head volleyball coach Kathy Goings is looking at the big picture, so she wasn’t too concerned with the Ladycats 25-22, 25-11, 25-14, loss to Southlake Carroll Tuesday night at the Carroll High School gym.
The loss drops the state-ranked No. 6 Ladycats to 13-5.

The Ladycats are experimenting with a two-setter offense, and Goings used the Carroll match and will do the same in this weekend's Frisco tournament to see how the Ladycats respond.

Bearcats to host Burleson Friday in scrimmage

The Aledo Bearcats will scrimmage against the Burleson Elks Friday, Aug. 22, at Bearcat Stadium.

Admission is a $1 donation to the Texas High School Coaches Association Benevolence Fund.

The freshmen White/Black/Orange scrimmages will be at 5:30 p.m. at the practice fields.

The sophomore/junior varsity scrimmage will be at 5:30 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.

Ladycats win 7 of 8 matches over weekend

The state-ranked No. 8 Aledo Ladycats volleyball team raised its over record to 9-1 by winning seven of eight matches Thursday through Saturday in Abilene.

The Ladycats will resume non-district play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at No. 5 Red Oak.

The Ladycats took a pair of wins Thursday night in a dual match at Abilene High School, defeating host Abilene, 25-21, 26-24, 25-17, and downing Abilene Cooper, 25-18, 25-13, 25-18.

Former city administrator to focus on economic development

Willow Park's former city administrator's job change took place under the mayor to focus more on the city's commercial growth and increasing the city's sales tax revenue, officials said.

Although Claud Arnold's new position as the economic development administrator is not official until the Council takes action at its regular meeting Aug. 18, the move was made under the assumption that Mayor Marvin Glasgow's preliminary actions will be ratified by the Council, Arnold said.
