Ladycats, Bearcats sweep at Brewer

Both the Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats won this afternoon (Saturday, Jan. 3) in Distict 6-4A basketball action over Brewer at Brewer High School.

The Bearcats, playing in their district opener, defeated the Bears, 72-64, while the state-ranked No. 9 Ladycats pushed their 6-4A mark to 3-0 with a 79-39 blowout over the Lady Bears.

The teams will return home Tuesday night to continue distict play against Boswell. The girls game will tip off at 6 p.m followed by the boys contest at 7:30 p.m.

Casa Manana holding auditions for Miss Nelson is Missing!

Casa Manana will hold open-call auditions for the Children’s Playhouse production of Miss Nelson is Missing! on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Rehearsal Studio at Casa Manana Theatre, 3101 West Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth.
Audtions will be by appointment only. Available Roles include (female) Miss Nelson / Viola Swamp – large vocal range, alto to soprano, to play two very different roles and (male roles) Pop Hanson / Mr. Blandsford / Detective McSmogg – baritone to tenor to play three roles; Gregory – baritone, adult who can play youth.

Murder Mystery set for mid-January

Weatherford Stage Performers will present a murder mystery, Murder in Black and White, in dinner theater format Saturday, January 17, 2009 in the White Shadows home at Chandor Gardens in Weatherford. County officials to be sworn in Dec. 31

From the Parker County Judge's Office

Parker County’s newly elected officials and re-elected officials will hold a public Swearing in Ceremony in the County Court at Law 2 Courtroom of the Parker County Courthouse on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at 10:30 a.m.

All of the officials will be serving four year terms to begin Jan. 1, 2009. Parker County Judge Mark Riley said the public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Ladycats smother Birdville, 66-38

Aledo sophomore guard Logan Mittie scored a game-high 24 points and senior wing Taylor Hays added 18 to lead the Ladycats to a convincing 66-38 victory over Birdville Friday night in a District 6-4A contest at Birdville High School.

The win elevates the state-ranked No. 9 Ladycats to 14-2, and 2-0 in district play.

The Ladycats will take a Christmas break and return to action Monday, Dec. 29, at the Sherman tournament. Aledo will open tournament play at 8 p.m. against McKinney North.

Bearcats Smith, Wright, Koontz named to AP all-state football team

Aledo senior offensive lineman Jordan Smith, senior safety Jesse Wright and senior defensive lineman Jon Koontz were selected as honorable mentions on the Associated Press all-state team, it was released Thursday.

Smith, Wright and Koontz have added to their post-season honors as all three were first-team, All-District 6-4A choices.

“I am happy for them and it is quite an honor to make the honorable mention level of all-state, especially Associated Press,” Aledo head coach Tim Buchanan said. “They take the vote after week 10, so it is based on regular-season performance. Not only do they look at statistics, but they also make sure the the kids are in good standing.”

Ladycats win District 6-4A opener; Bearcats more than double Diamond Hill

It was the first home basketball doubleheader of the season at Aledo High School - including the District 6-4A opener for the Ladycats - and both AHS teams rolled to victories Tuesday night.

The Ladycats started slow but came away with a 52-36 victory over Mineral Wells, while the Bearcats played solid defense with an up-tempo offense and ran way with a 66-32 win over Fort Worth Diamond Hill.
