Mayor breaks tie on two votes

After a lengthy executive session at its regular city council meeting on Monday, Nov. 17, the Willow Park city council issued raises for three of the cities staff members in a tie vote that was broken by mayor Marvin Glasgow.
Hale Alderman made a motion to raise city administrator Candy Scott’s salary by $5,000, which was seconded by Ken Hawkins. Council members Barry Brown and Barry Tatum opposed the motion. Glasgow broke the split with a vote in favor of awarding the increase to Scott.

The state-ranked No. 2 Everman Bulldogs scored 18 unanswered points in the second half to come away with a 24-7 win over the No. 3 Aledo Bearcats Friday night in a Class 4A Division II area championship game at Pennington Field.

Bettinger named District 6-4A MVP

In a vote of league coaches, Bettinger was the unanimous choice for District 6-4A's Most Valuable Player. Bettinger finished the 14-match district slate with a league-high 188 kills. Ladycats, Bearcats playoff games set; Wallace earns trip to state

It has been a successful weekend for Aledo High School athletics.

The Bearcats won the District 6-4A championship with a 42-7 win over Birdville Friday night to complete a 10-0 season; the Ladycats advanced to the regional quarterfinals in volleyball with a win Thursday night over Stephenville; and on Saturday in Lubbock, Aledo senior runner Ken Wallace posted a time of 15:57 to place ninth at the Region I cross country meet which qualifies Wallace for the state meet at Round Rock.
