Ladycats reach regional finals with 12-0 win

The Aledo Ladycats pounded out 16 hits, including a walk-off, game-winning home run by senior third baseman Haylee Bell, en route to a 12-0 victory over Wolfforth Frenship Friday night in the regional softball semifinals at Abilene Christian University.
The game was called after Bell's home run in the bottom of the fifth inning due to run rule.
The Ladycats will face District 8-4A rival Joshua in the regional finals.

Aledo defeats Tigers 12-0

The Aledo Ladycats defeated the Wolfforth Frenship Tigers 12-0 in five innings in the Regional Semifinal softball game tonight at Abilene Christian University. Three runs came in the second inning, including a two-run single by K.K. Pittman. Leading 9-0 in the fifth, senior Haylee Bell hit a three-run home run to end the game on the 10-run rule. The state-ranked No. 1 Aledo Ladycats softball team will play a one-game regional semifinal series against Wolfforth Frenship on Friday. Game time will be at 8 p.m. at Abilene Christian University.
The winner will advance to the regional finals.


Both bond issues pass - City issues settled

Both Aledo school bond issues passed in voting Saturday, May 10.
Proposition 1, a bond package of 59,060,000, passed 1315-926,

Proposition 2, a smaller package of $7,965,000, passed 1353-873.

In school board races, incumbent Connie Suchocki was defeated by David Davis 1107-766. In place 7, incumbent Leanne Osgood held off challenger Jay Stringer, 1012-960.

Ladycats advance after 5-0 victory over Saginaw

Aledo senior shortstop Lyndi Samuelson smashed three hits and scored two runs and senior pitcher Whitney Canion allowed two hits and fired nine strikeouts to lead the Ladycats to a 5-0 victory over Saginaw Thursday night in a Region I quarterfinal game at Mansfield Summit High School.
The Ladycats broke open a tight game with four runs in the top of the fourth inning helped by a double each by senior outfielder Katie Denny and Samuelson.

Saginaw up next for Ladycats on road to state tournament

Step two in the Aledo Ladycats run to the Class 4A state softball tournament will occur Thursday when AHS takes on 23-9 Saginaw at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Mansfield Summit High School.
The state-ranked No. 1 Ladycats (34-1) swept Sherman last week, 9-0, 3-2, in the area playoffs, with the winning run in game two scored in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-out single by junior left fielder Andi Shahan that drove in sophomore catcher Easton Cook with the series-winning run. Cook almost ended the game herself, but her deep fly ball to centerfield hit the fence as she settled for a double.

Public invited to open house at jail

From the Parker County Judge's Office
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler, along with Parker County Judge Mark Riley and the Parker County Commissioners Court, is inviting the public to an open house event at the recently completed expansion of the Parker County Jail, 129 Hogle St. in Weatherford this Friday, May 9 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
With the addition of the 281 bed facility, Parker County will soon be housing all inmates at the expanded jail.

The Parker County Crime Stoppers has issued the following Crime of the Week, and we need your help in locating this wanted person.

Randy Wayne WhiteRandy Wayne WhiteOn Saturday, 05/03/08, the Weatherford Police Department responded to an assault call in our city where the suspect, Randy Wayne White - W/M, 45 years of age, 6’04”, 210lbs with brown hair and blue eyes, assaulted an elderly family member. When the live-in home health caregiver tried to call 911, however, he assaulted her and then took their phones preventing them from calling 911. The elderly family member suffered significant injuries and the nurse suffered minor injuries. The elderly family member was transported to Weatherford Regional Medical Center due to her injuries.

Ladycats advance in Class 4A softball playoffs

Junior left fielder Andi Shahan lined a single to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in sophomore Easton Cook with the game-winning run as the Aledo Ladycats defeated Sherman, 3-2, to sweep the Class 4A, Region I area series. Cook had reached second base after smashing a double off the centerfield fence.
The state-ranked No. 1 Ladycats (32-1) advance to the regional quarterfinals and will face Saginaw in a one-game series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Mansfield Summit High School.
