Bearcats stay unbeaten in 6-4A with 42-0 victory over Azle

Junior quarterback Trey Ozee led Aledo on six scoring marches and the Bearcats defense pitched its second straight shutout as Aledo cruised past Azle, 42-0, Friday night at Bearcat Stadium on Homecoming Night.

Homecoming Night was indeed special in Aledo. In addition to the blowout win, the Aledo Ladycats 2008 state champion softball team was honored with a ring ceremony before the game, and at halftime, Aledo senior Kristin Pass was crowned Homecoming Queen.

Although the Azle Lady Hornets put up a fight in the third game of the best-of-five District 6-4A volleyball match with the Aledo Ladycats, they still could not avoid the sweep Friday afternoon at the Aledo High School gym.

No. 10 Ladycats sweep Mineral Wells

Aledo senior hitter Allie Bettinger sent down a team-high eight kills and added eight aces, and senior hitters Blair Fowler and Abby Tomas each added five stoppers to lead the state-ranked No. 10 Ladycats to a 25-15, 25-12, 25-19 victory over Mineral Wells Tuesday night in a District 6-4A match at the AHS gym.

The win keeps the Ladycats (28-6, 8-0) in first place in 6-4A with at least a two-match cushion.

Coming off a win last Friday against Boswell to gain possession of second-place in District 6-4A, the Springtown Lady Porcupines were primed to host the first-place Aledo Ladycats in a match that could have tied up the district race.
