McDonald selected as District 6-4A Most Valuable Player

Aledo senior quarterback Tanner McDonald was selected as District 6-4A's Most Valuable Player for 2008 in a vote of league coaches.

McDonald, in his first year as starting quarterback, led the Bearcats to a 7-0 district mark and 10-0 season record.

Three other Bearcats - senior safety Jesse Wright, freshman running back Jonathan Gray and sophomore cornerback Rylan Riney - also earned top district honors.

Wright was named Defensive Player of the Year; Gray was the choice for Offensive Newcomer of the Year; and Riney was selected Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

Also, head coach Tim Buchanan and his staff were named 6-4A's Coaching Staff of the Year.

Several Bearcats earned first-team, all-district honors including senior running back Joel Hasley (unanimous), junior tight end Forrest Cook, senior wide receiver Aaron Corby, senior offensive tackle Daniel Meyer (unanimous), senior offensive guard Jordon Smith, senior center Bryce Barrett, senior utility player Aaron Ates, senior defensive lineman Tyler O'Doherty, senior defensive end Jon Koontz (unanimous), junior defensive end Cy Wilson, senior inside linebacker Kyle Bottom, senior inside linebacker Mikey Moore, junior outside linebacker Danny Heiss, senior cornerback Justin Peters (unanimous) and senior safety Kodey Taylor (unanimous).

Earning second-team accolades from Aledo were senior offensive guard Christian Miller, senior defensive lineman Adam Kuntz and junior outside linebacker Dillon Hawkins.

AHS players earning honorable mentions were junior defensive end Devin Davis, senior fullback Austin Stockon, senior offensive tackle Jared May, junior wide receiver Stetson Stockard and junior tackle Asher Zeeb.
