James Charles MercerJames Charles Mercer, 84, of Weatherford, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 in a Fort Worth hospital. Born May 23, 1924 in Martwick, Kentucky, he was a former resident of Hereford before moving to Parker County. After serving his country as a Sergeant in the Army during World War II, Mercer went to work for the Texas Department of Transportation where he retired after 30 years. He then went on to enjoy his second career as a realtor for 10 years. Mercer was a member of First Baptist Church of Weatherford, the Texas Public Employees Association and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Hereford. He was also a former member of the First Baptist Church in Hereford, Hereford Board of Realtors and the Rainbow Girls’ Board. He dearly loved God and his family and spent everyday setting a great example for those around him. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Mercer of Weatherford; his daughter, Ann Sims and husband Gil of Weatherford; grandchildren Kellie Lowder and husband Michael of Fort Worth and Charlie Sims and wife Kym of Keller; great grandson Carson Sims; sister, Nell Morgan of Lexington, Kentucky, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends Funeral service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel with Dr. Steve Buckland officiating. Interment: 2:30 p.m. in DFW National Cemetery. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Galbreaith Pickard in charge of arrangements.
